Dans les 50's les Winklepickers ont été très en vogue. Le nom est tiré de l'orteil pointu, évocateur des souliers au bout pointu du 14ème siècle.
La popularité des Winklepickers gagne dans les 50's avec Teddy Boys et elles ont été alors adoptées par les Mods dans les 60's. Les chaussures à bout pointu était quelque chose de novateur comparées aux chaussures plus formelles du temps. On les distinguait aux pieds de jeunes se battant dans les rues de Londres et ces chaussures ont donc été montrées du doigt. D'autres mouvements les ont adoptées : le Rockabilly, les Punks. Aujourd'hui on les voit aux pieds des membres de The Horrors ou encore de Neil’s Children.
Hi everybody, I’m back for a few days. But I wanted to make an article, because after 5 hours of train, from Lyon I’m back with a few hours of The Horrors music in my head and their look is still magical to me.
You can easily guess the aim of the article, the traditional pointed shoes, the Winklepickers, little part of history :)
In the 50’s the Winklepickers were fashionable, the name is coming from the pointed toe, suggesting the pointed shoes of the 14th.
Into the 50’s they became more popular thanks’ to the Teddy Boys and had been adopted by the Mods in the 60’s. They have something new in comparison with the traditional shape of shoes.
They were on young’s feet in London. Also Rockabilly and Punk had adopted them. Today’s it’s at Horrors feet or Neil’s Children that we can see them.
